Commencement Speaker
The 2012 Commencement speaker and honorary degree recipient was
U.S.
Representative John Carney. Congressman Carney is
Delaware’s sole U.S. Representative in Washington, D.C., and
previously served twice as Lieutenant Governor as well as
serving as Secretary of Finance.
The 2012 Commencement Ceremony
The processional was introduced by Dr. Robert A. Donnelly, Jr.
Rev. Dr. Vicki Gordy-Stith - pastor at the United Methodist Church - led the invocation and benediction of the ceremony.
Denzel T. McColley - president of the Student Government Association and BS 2013 - led the Salute to the Flag and and introduced Congressman Carney.
"The Star-Spangled Banner" and "America the Beautiful" were performed by Matthew I. Bik (BS 2013).
The 2012 Excellence in Teaching Award was presented by President Mohammad Ilyas and Academic Dean Alison Boord White to Dr. Lynda Murray-Jackson.
President Mohammad Ilyas and E. Thomas Harvey III (Chair, Board of Trustees) conferred the honorary degree of Doctor of Public Administration on Congressman Carney.
Vice President Gary L. Wirt introduced the 2012 graduates.
