WILMINGTON, DE (October 4, 2004) – The Goldey-Beacom College men’s cross country team captured sixth place while the women’s took 12^th place at the Belmont Classic Saturday morning at Fairmont Park.

The Lightning men finished with a total of 142 points. Richard Stockton College captured the men’s 8K team title with a score of 25, which bested the score of 65 posted by second place Albright College. Ursinus College followed in third place at 124, followed by Marywood University in fourth place with 133 and King’s College in fifth with 137 points rounds out the top five. Individually, Ricky Pfeifer of Richard Stockton College finished in first place with a time of 27:34.76.

On the women’s side, Georgian Court College finished atop the race leaderboard with a score of 86 in the 5K race. Albright College finished second with 115 points, followed by Marywood University with 124 points, Gwynedd Mercy College with 137 points and University of the Sciences in Philadelphia with 139. Carolyn Roberts of Cabrini College took first place in the individual competition with a time of 19:45.40.

Sophomore Matt Lang (Chestertown, MD) posted the best time amongst Goldey-Beacom men, finished the race with a time of 29:14.23 which was good for a 12^th place finish. Junior Brad Paski (Wilmington, DE) was next for the Lightning in 15^th place at 29:33.12, followed by junior Chip Lewis (Newark, DE) in 36^th place at 31:17.53, freshman Rashad Matthews (Milford, DE) in 39^th place with a time of 31:24.34, sophomore Brian Kirk (Wilmington, DE) in 55^th place at 32:56.78, and sophomore Matt Werkmeister (Newark, DE) in 94^th place with a time of 37:41.35.

Freshman Katie Lewis (Newark, DE), a CACC Honor Selection last week, led the Lightning women with a time of 22:43.85, placing her 27^th overall. She was followed by classmate Jess Kaszeta (Wilmington, DE) in 37^th place with a time of 23:11.26, junior Brandy Ash (Dagsboro, DE) in 80^th with a time of 25:23.63, junior Lu Lu Maseko (Swaziland) in 104^th place at 28:38.18 and senior Nonhlanhla Maseko (Swaziland) in 105^th at 28:40.37.

The Lightning men and women return to action this Saturday when they host the annual Goldey-Beacom Fall Classic, beginning at 10 a.m.
